The common thought in my day was "Those who can DO, Those who can't TEACH! That should get hatemail!

There are Teachers Colleges that will guarantee an undergraduate degree to all who have the tuition, the right social qualifications and AA. Gone are the days when a 12th grader could teach anything an 8th grader was learning, having thoroughly learned it himself. The idea that it requires a Masters to teach third graders begs the question.

Of what use is a $100K degree in ethnic or women's studies? Who needs someone schooled in diversity or English Lit? Who, other than a moron, decided to borrow many thousands of dollars to get a degree in nonsense only to acquire a high GPA to impress his fellow losers squatting in public parks and soiling his own pants while crying about the 99%? All such people should be scooped up by bulldozers and deported to Somali where there are no one percenters and no evil white people to harm them.

i don't think waiting is the answer as opposed to having a clear focus and specific trade/certificate that will get you a job upon graduation. The fact that so many kids go to college for a broad basic degree, like history or math is the problem. In the end they decide to be "teachers" and there isn't any jobs for teachers

Implementing policies that result in 100% of college grads under- or unemployed seems like an odd strategy. My personal opinion is that they are just plain stupid in the Obama Administration, or rather, they are smart, but not as smart as they think they are. What they are doing isn't working, that seems to be undeniable. Still, I would think a better strategy for the Democrats is figure out how to steer 100% of college graduates into government jobs.

An interesting study would be to segregate the un/underemployed by degree - my guess math applied science and engineering degree holders have little problem getting jobs, if they are willing to move to where the jobs are - not so with those who can not bare to move away from mommy or have degrees in women's studies and creative writing -- this is not news at all just the free market supply and demand allocating employment - now it is time for youth to listen to the market before spending $s on an educational bridge to nowhere!

Greedy colleges are accepting intellectually challenged students, their easy to get diplomas in the humanities are often rejected by employers. Graduates who have passed difficult science courses have only a 10% unemployment rate. it is almost impossible for a quick learner to remain unemployed.

Show me the graduate who as a new hire represents a positive ROI to a company an I will bet that behind that degree is a motivated individual who had worked in that profession and decided that they needed to formalize their experience to advance. And that includes PhD's. Most hard sciences fall into this opinion and it extends into finance & business management. Most coming out of college these days are loss leaders on company books. - and we all know of the sensitivity to profits right now. 53% - surprised its not larger. and if it is a gov't number, it probably is, just look at their wacky bookkeeping.

Can they produce a product or service people are standing in line to buy? Can they produce, or create something the Chinese or Brazilians cannot efficiently provide for themselves?

Lets get right down to the Khyber Rifles here, what are the qualifications of these unemployed New Graduates? I'll bet you find few technical disciplines among them! How many unemployed Pharmacists, Chemists, Engineers, Math Majors, Computer Programmers, Nuclear Medicine Specialists, Architechs and Geoligists do you find in that Job Hunting Group? Are they unfortunate or did they just choose an easier path that requires full employment of society to absorb them?

When I walked that walk, picked up my Engineering "Sheepskin" and flipped my Tassel, the next stop was the library where Bell Labs, Honeywell, Philco and Hughes Aircraft recruiters were waiting with job offers!

Four years earlier, while pondering my future with the counsellor, I anxiously inquired what I should select, with my modest talent for the purpose of maximizing my earning potential. In those days, you pursued higher education to better yourself financially. Liberal Arts Courses were a luxury but Technical and Science Courses were essential to greater earning potential.

The Councellor told me, quite honestly that Engineering looked the best at that time.

I worked the graveyard shift as a machine operator while attending classes. For students in later years, as tuition money was easier to come by, these decisions must have became easier to make. I often wonder what it would have been like, not having to study on my lunch break at 3am, attending lectures and takeing finals after an 8 hour shift operating a machine and needing a shower.

I suspect making things more effortless seldom improves quality.

I am writing here to explain why I did not look for fluff courses with names containing the words Diversity and Studies in them.;l

My brother operated the movie projectors and swamped out the theatre after shows. He had his studies timed to changing those 18 minute reels. He graduated first in his class as a Chemical Engineer! Are things that hard today? Are todays conditions producing a better graduate?

I chose Engineering too, even though I knew it would be the end of my partying lifestyle. I got a great job after all the hard scholastic work and moved out of town. My peers, most majoring in Poly-Sci, Psyc, or Lib-Arts got work at TGI Fridays or Texas Roadhouse and continued to live in their parent's basements.
