Yesterday a story cataloged teams of men from two local power companies volunteering to leave for Ohio to help restore power for 800,000 people in Cuyahoga County. Once the work was completed then they would head for the east coast if needed.

A group of men who volunteer to leave their families to assist fellow Americans. The work would be dangerous, the hours long, but in their view worth the effort or why volunteer? True American spirit in action.

We are certain to read stories of uncommon valor by ordinary citizens in New York and New Jersey that reached out to help their neighbors in distress, but not until politicians get out of the limelight. The Red Cross, The Salvation Army, other charitable and faith based organizations were already on the ground assisting.

High above in a helicopter politicians fly over to assess the damage, but what can they do? Will they or can they make the water recede? Do you remember a candidate saying ‘this is the moment the seas began to recede’? Already the Climate Change zealots are claiming this disaster is man’s fault because of an element everyone exhales and trees inhale.

The politicians offer false hope, and the zealots fraudulent excuses. Both for personal gain or vindication of their beliefs. The people on the ground know that neither can restore what they have lost. This was an act of nature that man has experienced throughout the millennium.

Normal life will be restored over time however will never be the same.

Just the prior month a group of volunteers were serving in Libya. The brother of Tyrone Woods asked why are you going again? You are a retired Seal, married with a young child? Tyrone’s answer: because if I don’t do it who will?

The same American spirit we see in response to Sandy, yet more dangerous. The storm clouds of Sandy formed and could be observed with advanced technology and the warnings to prepare were sounded. Unfortunately for Tyrone Woods the warnings to our government sent by Ambassador Stevens were ignored.

Although our government used advanced technology to watch the attack on our consulate in real time, there was not to be politicians flying overhead telling the media how great they are, or any help from volunteers to come to the aid of Americans in distress. They were ordered to stand down.

What would your reaction be if you knew your government ordered help to stand down in the aftermath of Sandy?

The result was Ambassador Christopher Stevens, computer expert Sean Smith, and two former Seals Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty died an unnecessary death at the hands of Islamic terrorists.

It's a shame that many of my fellow conservatives take glee in the fact that 2,000 Americans have now made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. It's too bad they have forgotten that AFGHANISTAN is where AL-QAEDA attacked the USA from on 9-11 and were given sanctuary by the Taliban. These dupes of Republican party propaganda still believe that Saddam had something to do with 9-11 or they still, mistakenly believe, that Saddam had WMD in the year 2003.
poseur Wrote: Nov 02, 2012 9:01 PM
and yes, Saddam did have WMD in the 1980's, and used them, when Ronald Wilson Reagan game them the green light to use them on his own citizens.

Let's see...how many Americans died in Libya...and how many Americans died in 'Fast and Furious.' Add all that up and compare that to how many Americans died on 9-11, because the Republican party was preoccupied with ginning up a war against Russia in 2001 by scrapping the ABM Treaty. People, WAKE-UP!!!

I am getting tired of reading things like "have you served?" or "you don't have a right to say anything unless..."

My RIGHTS come from God and are self-evident.

People who think they can take away MY God given rights are behaving like Nazis. Yes, specifically, they behave like the Nazi concentration camp commander in Schindler's List.

Remember him, the one, Amon Goeth who fancied himself saying "I bestow upon you!"

Take a hike you Republican Nazi wannabees. You can't bestow anything upon me, for they have already been given to me, by a higher being!!

It's time for Republicans to accept the responsibility for 9-11. During the eight year 'Reign of Error' of George W. Bush, Republicans never accepted blame for anything.

Here's a Republican storyline of why Al Qaeda was successful on 9-11; Jamie Gorelick made a 'wall' that prevented information to flow between the CIA and FBI.

If this is a story we all know about and the Republicans had been in charge for nine months in 2001, then how come they didn't do anything about that 'wall?'

George Bush(R) was President, Denny Hastert(R) was Speaker of the House and Trent Lott(R) was Senate Majority Leader in 2001. What did they do to overturn this most cumbersome and onerous law?

Nothing! NADA! Zilch!

Ronald Wilson Reagan said we shouldn't negotiate with hostage takers. In fact, he did.

Remember the Iran-Contra fiasco? He traded arms to Iran for the release of hostages. Iran got some F-5 parts and TOW missiles and then told their fellow Shia buddies in Lebanon to grab some more hostages. Reagan then arranged for more arm shipments to Iran. This was utter lunacy! And that cycle repeated again, and again and again.

Reagan evidently thought the massive "Commie" base in Nicaragua was a bigger strategery threat than the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Card-carrying Republicans will often respond with "at least Ronald Reagan's heart was in the right place!"

My only thought is "so was Neville Chamberlain's when he returned to England from Munich waving a piece of paper in his hand."

The problem is that we haven't paid for the added cost of defense... wars without funding is a big part of why we are in debt. Wars with unintended consequences is why we have a power vacuum in the middle east. If we want to be the world's enforcerer, then we have to pay for it through increased revenues/taxes... Republicans don't want that. Special interests own the Congress, so we need to change our laws to limit the impact of money, but the Supreme Court was recently against that by calling companies people. Get rid of the money influence by getting involved in changing our Congress if you want to make a difference!
poseur Wrote: Nov 02, 2012 8:35 PM
GOP House members have stonewalled on the debt limit and harmed the country's credit rating, then demanded that sequestration cuts be adopted as part of the deal to resolve the crisis they created. They wanted huge budget cuts then, but don't seem to want them now, especially if the budget cuts might hurt their own sacred cows. If the White House and congress really wanted to solve the federal budget crisis, they would do nothing. At the end of the year, the Bush tax cuts would expire and federal spending cuts would go into effect, impacting all parts of the federal budget.
poseur Wrote: Nov 02, 2012 8:35 PM
In a few years, the budget would be balanced. But of course we can't expect our elected officials to stand by and let the deficit be resolved. What would they fight about if that happened?

Let's follow standard Republican protocol by promoting more tax cuts and complaining about the National Debt in order to pay for increased defense spending.

Oh wait...I don't think that makes any mathematical sense...

Troll alert! "artdemeer" is indeed a HuffPuff reject spam poster!

Have you all-American, conservative folks noticed that we are being barraged by Leftist spam posts as the election bewitching hour approaches by strange names like "thabber," "rachelmadcow," and "Petya"?

They might well simply be new morphs/iterations/face changes of alison, Olive/ Ray Ancle/ Zapdoodat/ saawshank/ Denis3957, et al.-- and now "artdemeer"

Of course, they add no value...just a waste of cyberspace

artdemeer said. "When 90% of the wealth of a country is concentrated in 10% of the population, it is not healthy for society".

What is far far worse iis that our countries wealth is being squandered by some of those people who have been elected to represent us. That brings the 10% figure artdemeer says is controlling 90% of the wealth down to a mere handful of people who are actually making decisions that controll the wealth of our country. That they are making extremely poor decisions is evident by the sixteen trillion dollar debt that has been racked up -- around four trillion of it in just the past three and a half years.
Grant75 Wrote: Nov 02, 2012 3:11 PM
What many people overlook is that the “10%” are not the same people year after year. The ones who climb into that bracket are the ones who are able to put class-envy-driven egalitarianism behind them long enough to make the effort. Moreover, it’s not the fault of the top 10% that the bottom 45% believe in Santa Claus.
