Here’s a joke I got from a friend in Alabama. It’s somewhat similar to this gem about the difference between conservatives, liberals, and Texans.

========================================================

You may have heard on the news about a southern California man put under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found he owned 100 guns and allegedly had (by rough estimate) 100,000 rounds of ammunition stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel.

My favorite quote from the dimwit television reporter: “Wow! He has about a quarter million machine gun bullets.” The headline referred to it as a “massive weapons cache”.

By southern California standards someone owning 100,000 rounds would be called “mentally unstable”. Just imagine if he lived elsewhere:

In Arizona , he’d be called “an avid gun collector”.

In Texas , he’d be called “a novice gun collector”.

In Utah , he’d be called “moderately well prepared”, but they’d probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of stored food.

In Montana , he’d be called “The neighborhood ‘Go-To’ guy”.

In Idaho , he’d be called “a likely gubernatorial candidate”.

In Wyoming , he’d be called “an eligible bachelor”.

In Wisconsin , he’d be called “a deer hunting buddy”.

And, in Alabama , we just call him “Bubba”.

I wonder if I can get disabled status based on my fear of being unarmed. You suppose? And if I needed to fly somewhere the TSA would have to let me go with my guns because I was disabled due to fear of being unarmed? Wouldn't that be cool?

I don't know about that but I DO hear that "Chronic Unemployment" is now an actual disability that Social Security will consider for SSDI.

Stupid regulation cost us all a lot of money in case you hadn't noticed, that was mentioned in the article. see this quote:

Americans spend 8.8 billion hours every year filling out government forms.
The economy-wide cost of regulation is now $1.75 trillion.
For every bureaucrat at a regulatory agency, 100 jobs are destroyed in the economy’s productive sector.

You know, maybe if you ended up living in a country where only the criminals had guns maybe you'd learn to more apt to appreciate the concept of self protection. If someone doesn't want to own or possess a firearm that's fine, it's their decision. However, don't sit there on some self-righteous pedestal of perceived indignation and naiveté and dictate what is good for the rest of us. There is only going to be one toughest SOB on the block. An "equalizer" however can act as a real deterrent to even the biggest and the "badest". The avg. police response time to a 911 call is 8 minutes, a .40 cal. S&W is 1205 ft/sec. You choose which one you want protecting your family.

Is anyone really surprised?
That's why they / we call Kalifornia the land of fruits and nuts.
Visited there twice. Once in 1961 and again in 1964. I think it was more-or-less free back then. I have no desire to go back again.
I don't understand why people continue to live there, especially those who can leave any time they want.
WestTexan Wrote: May 11, 2012 3:20 PM
Same here, lived there in '64 and last visted in '79. Never want to go back.
Milt37 Wrote: May 11, 2012 3:42 PM
Sadly, I'm currently in CA.

Moved here in 1964 when I was seven, and it was still a pretty nice place back then.

First time I moved out was to Orlando, FL in 1980. Stayed there and couldn't stand the weather, or the state. Moved back to CA in 1982, for a much better job.

Moved to Boulder, CO in 1987. Great scenery (except for all the 60 yr. old hippies), but that job didn't work out, so I had to move back to CA for work in 1990.

After a layoff in 1992, I got a job in Albuquerque, NM (best place I've lived). After nine years there, I was forced back to CA due to work.

Being an aerospace (defense) engineer, CA has a lot of jobs, but that's gone downhill in the last 20 years.

I just can't escape CA, but I'm still trying!

I love watching crime shows where there investigating bombing. They go to a suspects home and find bomb making equipment. i.e. pipes, wire, wire cutters, batteries, duct tape etc. I and most of my buddies have all of that stuff plus cans of gun powder for reloading shells.

Believe it...

Kalipornikstan has become a Police State. But the truth of the matter is that everyone on my block owns a gun or 4. Since blaring loopholes were found in the gun ban legislation untold hundreds of thousands of "Assault Rifles" have been sold here over the last several years - many to the Cartel!! The only good thing about single-issue-voters is they elect incompetent legislators that are so inept they can't pass laws that can hold up in court.

As far as 100k rounds goes - Our legislature pre-empted the Postal Service and tried to outlaw mail order ammunition purchases. Ever bought ammo in a Police State? It's EXPENSIVE! We buy bulk, out of state.

This guy will be a commodity broker if Owebomney gets elected.
scott s. Wrote: May 11, 2012 4:47 PM
I don't believe ammunition is mailable, per Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) 601. Ammunition can be shipped by common carrier, though has DOT HazMat class 1.4. However, properly packaged ammunition can be shipped in quantity up to 20 kg (66 lbs) as "ORM-D" as long as it is classified "Cartridges, Small Arm". Generally passenger aircraft can accept as checked baggage up to 5 kg (11 lb) of ammunition, subject to airline contract of carriage.
Pistol Wrote: May 11, 2012 8:09 PM

My memory is that 20 kg is close to 44 pounds, not 66. I wouldn't quibble, except someone might make a bum decision.

it's pathetic that the "progressives" are afraid of and persecute lawful gun owners, while the criminals commit mayhem and murder and they strive to protect THEM.
Pistol Wrote: May 11, 2012 9:36 AM
Actually, the real news is that life long firearms enthusiasts like me are NOT news. We've been around forever. The real news is that there are hundreds of thousands of first time gun owners over the last few years. When you put up real money in response to a perceived situation, it indicates a serious turn of mind. Just what situation these new gun owners see is left as an exercise for the student.

Isn't it odd that the media gets their undies in a bunch over some guy who's never broken any laws, (at least that we know of) for having 100 guns, but they look the other way when our own DOJ and BATFE allowed 2000 guns to "WALK INTO MEXICO" to the drug cartels, and we get nary a peep out of our lame stream media. "Bias" ply tires are so out of fashion.

Last time I purchased ammunition in New Jersey, you only needed to sign for pistol calibers. Since pistols come in .22 cal, that ammo falls under similar restrictions. I go to the free state of PA to buy my ammo, until I can escape Joisey forever, some time next year.
David70 Wrote: May 13, 2012 3:02 AM

Pistol Wrote: May 11, 2012 7:45 AM
100 guns is totally over the top. I only have 76, and most of them i have never even shot. Uhhh, i think i have 76, its hard to count them all and i keep trading and "loaning" them out to neices and nephews, but i'm sure its 76 plus or minus 3 or 4. Heck, that's slide rule accuracy, which was enough to get me through FIT. And as for ammo, how can anyone keep track? What with banging away when i get a chance, and buying another brick of .22 long rifles every time the yahoos make the news with riots and property destruction, i doubt i could come within a 1000 rounds of keeping track.

Happiness is a big stack of empties to re-load.
Jay Wye Wrote: May 11, 2012 9:44 AM
hopefully, you have compiled a list of your guns, their serial numbers, and photos of them all for insurance proof of ownership, and kept in a safe place separate from your guns.
NormRx Wrote: May 11, 2012 12:39 PM
Unless you have a rider covering your gun collection you would be out of luck on an insurance claim. Without a rider the most your insurance policy would cover is a few thousand dollars.

WestTexan Wrote: May 11, 2012 3:24 PM
nah, it ain't over the top. When I was a high school student, I counted all the firearms in my house and came up with 212 ranging from black powder antiques to modern bolt-action rifles. Dad's since gone on to the big gun range in the sky.
alopekos teumesios Wrote: May 11, 2012 8:10 PM
I knew a guy in Texas who had about three dozen lever action .30-30 rifles. That's over the top to have so many of one type of rifle without being a dealer.
David70 Wrote: May 13, 2012 3:00 AM
Don't allow the feds to know you loan guns to other than sons & daughters. Feds will confiscate guns going from you to a nephew, a fed no no, Mexifornia is even worse. Beside the above as a Mexifornia legal resident you can purchase guns from a limited list approved & tested by the Mexifornia DOJ. I think I'll moved to Utah, or Wyoming, or Montana, open carry works for me......

It sad when if you own firearms in this country and your adamant about protecting your family and your property your demonized in the media, congress, the populous takes issue with you and the president doesn't seem to care for you.
