Recalls this week: wind-up toys, ottomans, wood chippers

More than a half-million windup toys are being recalled this week because a piece poses a choking hazard to young children. Other recalled consumer products this week include off-highway vehicles and wood-chippers.

WINDUP MUSICAL TOYS

DETAILS: Carter's, Child of Mine, Guess How Much I Love You, and Just One You brands of windup musical plush toys. They were sold at Carter's, Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide and online from January 2016 through August 2017. The toys have a metal windup mechanism that can be turned to play music. They were sold in variety of animal characters and colors. The model number and batch code are printed on the smallest white sewn-in label behind the care label. WHY: The metal post and handle of the windup mechanism can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

INCIDENTS: Six reports of parts from the windup handle detaching from the toy. No injuries have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 587,000 in the U.S. and about 1,000 in Canada.

OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES

DETAILS: Polaris ACE 325 recreational off-highway vehicles sold at Polaris dealers from December 2014 through July 2017. The recalled ROVs have a single seat and were sold in white, green and red. For model year 2014 and 2015 ATVs, "Polaris" is printed on the front grill and "Ace" is printed on the rear panel. For model year 2016 ATVs, "Polaris" is printed on the front grill and "Polaris Ace" is printed on the rear panel. The VIN is printed on the right front frame of the vehicles. They include 2014 model A14BH33AJ, 2015 model A15DAA32AA, 2015 model A15DAA32AJ, 2016 model A16DAA32A1, and 2016 model A16DAA32A7.

WHY: The exhaust header pipe can crack and release hot exhaust gases into the engine compartment, posing fire and burn hazards.

INCIDENTS: Six reports of cracked exhaust pipes, including two reports of seat damage due to melting. No fires or injuries have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 6,300.

OTTOMANS

DETAILS: Black leather pouf ottomans filled with polystyrene beads. "Room Essentials" and model number 249-19-1286 are printed on a white tag which is sewn into the seam of the product. The model number can also be found on the sales receipt. They were sold at Target stores nationwide and online from June 2017 through August 2017.

WHY: The zippers on the pouf ottomans can be opened by children who can then suffocate or choke on the pouf's polystyrene beads.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

HOW MANY: About 7,500.

ROCKING CHAIRS

DETAILS: Herman Miller's Eames-branded molded fiberglass armchair rockers with model numbers beginning with RFAR. The rockers were sold in multiple shell colors and frame finishes, and with or without upholstery. Recalled rockers were made from May 1, 2013 through September 8, 2017. The manufacture date in MM/DD/YYYY format and the model number are printed on a label located on the underside of the seat. The Herman Miller, the Eames Office and the Eames signature logos are molded into the underside of the seat. They were sold at Herman Miller, Design Within Reach and Herman Miller's authorized retailers and dealers nationwide and at http://store.hermanmiller.com and www.dwr.com from May 2013 through September 2017.

WHY: The rocker's base can separate from the seat, posing a fall hazard.

INCIDENTS: Nine reports of consumers falling, including six resulting in injuries that included bumps and cuts.

HOW MANY: About 1,600 in the U.S. and about 190 in Canada.

WOOD CHIPPERS

DETAILS: Frontier Wood Chippers with model numbers WC1103, WC1105, and WC1205 sold at John Deere dealers nationwide from July 2017 through August 2017. The green and black landscaping machines have knives (blades) that grind up tree branches, turning them into wood chips or mulch. The model number and "Frontier" brand name are printed on the side of the machine. The serial number is located on the inside surface of the right hand frame on the rear of the machine. WHY: The wood chipper's knives (blades) can break and discharge, hitting the operators or bystanders, posing a risk of injury.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

DISHWASHERS

DETAILS: Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air and Thermador brand dishwashers. This recall expansion involves Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air and Thermador brand dishwashers sold in stainless steel, black, white and custom panel. The model and serial numbers are printed inside the dishwasher either on the top of the dishwasher inner door panel or on the side of the dishwasher panel. They were sold at appliance and specialty retailers, department stores, authorized builder distributors, and home improvement stores nationwide and online from January 2013 through May 2015. WHY: The dishwasher power cord can overheat and catch fire.

INCIDENTS: BSH Home Appliances has received five reports of the power cords overheating and causing fires resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 408,000 in the U.S. and about 61,000 in Canada. 149,000 additional units were previously recalled in October 2015. The date range was expanded for previously recalled models.
