The honorable David A. Clarke Jr., former Sheriff of Milwaukee County, has enjoyed a long and illustrious career in law enforcement that spans nearly four decades. His public service began in 1978, at the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), where he served 24 distinguished years and was promoted numerous times including being chosen as the Commander of the Department's First District and Commanding Officer of MPD’s Intelligence Division which produced and shared intelligence for dignitary protection in conjunction with the Secret Service, the Department of State, and other federal agencies.
In 2002, he was appointed as Milwaukee County Sheriff by Republican Governor Scott McCallum and in November that year, he was elected to his first four-year term, earning 64% of the vote. Sheriff Clarke was reelected four times and his victory margin rose up to 79% when he was last reelected in 2014.
In addition to his dedication and focus as the Sheriff of a large metropolitan county, Clarke developed a passion for political commentary. He is now fondly referred to as the “People’s Sheriff” because he explains complicated national controversies in a way that everyday people can understand. He is the keynote speaker at countless events across the country, where is audience always appreciates his no-nonsense way of promoting conservative values. He truly enjoys mobilizing everyday Americans to become more politically active and civically engaged.

Clarke graduated summa cum laude from Concordia University Wisconsin with a degree in Criminal Justice Management and he was honored with their Alumnus of the Year Award. In 2013, he received an M.A. in Security Studies from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security. He is also a graduate of the prestigious law enforcement executive training program at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, as well as the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Earlier this year, Sheriff Clarke released his best-selling book “Cop Under Fire” which chronicles his childhood and the challenges he and countless other officers face in law enforcement today.
