Progressives Say The Craziest Things

When I was a kid, there was a TV show hosted by Art Linkletter called Kids Say the Darnedest Things. The show featured kids talking candidly about everything from mom and dad to God and the devil.  Almost no subject was out of bounds.

Today, we have a new show - without the bright and edgy comments - but just as funny in its own, very different, way.

I call the show “Progressives Say the Craziest Things.”  While you won’t find it in your TV Guide, Progressives Say the Craziest Things is in plain view almost 24/7.  It especially features those running for president.

Here’s a few recent samples of “The Craziest Things,” I found particularly funny.

Bernie Sanders said, “the American people are going to love paying for free Medicare for all.”  What?  Sanders’ plan would require at least an additional 14.3% payroll tax and a 5.7% increase in income taxes.  And that’s not counting his tax cut repeals, ending exemptions for job-based health insurance, and increasing or creating new taxes on upper incomes, capital gains, and corporations.

Left-wing heartthrob, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, says motorcycles should be outlawed, then listed a number of not-so-compelling-reasons:  Motorcycles don’t pay enough in tolls, they get to make their own lanes, and they go too fast. My favorite, though, is her assertion that motorcycle riders are fat, stupid, and support Donald Trump.  Given that logic, she might as well ban jobs since most working people like having jobs and many support Trump.

Not to be left out, Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren not only wants to raise taxes to 80% on the top 5% of income earners, she also wants a new tax on assets each year for the ultra-rich.  If you have total assets worth $50 million or more, her tax plan would require you pay 2% annually on the total.  How long do you think it will be before her “ultra-rich” tax will be a middle class tax?  And how long before the rate moves from 2% to 10% or more?  It’s not only death and taxes that are certain, it’s also certain progressives will raise those taxes.

And when it comes to crazy things, let’s not leave out good ‘ole Joe.  After 40 years in Congress and 8 years as Vice President, it’s only now that Biden announced he’ll cure cancer.  But he’ll only do so if he wins.  If he loses?   Well, those stricken with cancer will just have to buck up.  Think his cancer curing promise is political?

The Craziest Things are being said by Democrats all the time.  Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said for months, “There is no crisis on the southern border.”  Try to tell that to border patrol agents and national guardsman who are looking for ways to house, feed, and care for the hundreds of thousands of migrants they’ve detained so far this year.

Senator Gillibrand of New York, another Democrat for president, says we should just “do away with ICE.”  Of course, she offers no substitute for ICE or for how to deal with the hundreds of thousands of immigrants crossing our borders illegally.   It sounds as though she’s advocating open borders that allow anyone in who wants in.  But she offers no way to pay for housing, feeding, educating, or caring for the tens of millions of un-vetted people her “open borders” approach would welcome to the country.

We’re used to candidates making crazy promises to get our votes.  But this year (and the election is still more than a year away,) the promises have reached a new level of crazy.  In fact, today’s promises so lack credibility that even those intended recipients of all the free stuff can’t take Democrat promises seriously. They can be forgiven for asking, “WHERE’S THE BEEF.”

Democratic candidate Andrew Yang wants to give everyone $1,000 a month.  Unstated is that his monthly gift will cost billions taken from others:  details, details.

Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, along with a great many other Democrats for President, now says blacks should receive reparations for slavery.  Beto says it’s justified because white people don’t understand slavery.  What the hell does that even mean and how would reparations work?  We don’t normally pay reparations to people not directly harmed by the act for which reparations are required.  As evil as slavery was and is, I’d argue that it's progressive policies of entitlement and dependency over the past 60 years that have caused more impoverishment and social dysfunction than events 200 years ago.

Finally, there’s the ultimate crazy from that craziest of progressive Democrats, Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii.  Senator Hirono said Democrats have a hard time “connecting” to the American people because Democrats “know so much,” and because of “how smart we are.”

That’s exactly the kind of repulsive arrogance that makes progressives believe they’re perfectly justified in depriving the rest of us of our income, our dignity, and our freedom.  And it’s the arrogance we can only hope their craziness will make plain in advance of next year’s elections.
