Caroline Baum, one of my favorite Bloomberg columnists has an interesting article today that's worth a read.

Please consider Wanted: Middle-Class Tweeters for White House Event.

Who were these people, gathered on the afternoon of New Year's Eve to fete the president as a deal to avert the fiscal cliff was hanging in the balance?

They were "middle-class Americans" who had tweeted their way to a staged White House event, according to Politico.

The crowd gathered at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on Monday looked fairly young, which makes their cheering even more disconcerting. Don't they understand that the president has done nothing to protect future generations from a crushing debt burden? Nothing about deficit reduction other than to talk about it? Nothing about preserving Medicare other than to demagogue any changes to the program?

A president truly interested in the issues he claims to be would have used this opportunity to educate younger Americans. Explain to them that the government has made promises to the elderly that it can't keep. Tell them they have choices to make on the benefits they want and the price they'll have to pay.

You won, Mr. President. You won re-election. You got your promised tax increases on the rich. But we lost. And if we lose, then ultimately you lose.

Can we please institute civics back into our schools? Certainly would help. It would help our younger generations in distinguishing socialism, dictatorship, democracy.

That is the end product of an education system, coached by liberals & self serving unions. The new Americans: the brainwashed cluless cadre for the politburo and its beloved leader

This reminds me of slaves who speak well of their masters, like the head house slave in Django, played by Samuel Jackson, who participates in punishing slaves and also turns them in for "misbehavior", simply because they get treated better by the master. In the movie, such slaves are considered the lowest of the low by other slaves.

I heard an interview yesterday on the radio that gave me a bit of hope about the young - Look up a young woman named Celia Bigelow and listen to what she has to say - she is now heading up the conservative college arm of American Action Majority - In a nutshell - because of her work even prior to the last election she has noted that there is a move among the young AWAY from Otrauma and his minions. The deal is the independents, Libertarians and Conservatives need to form a simple, POPULAR, Contemporary conservative message that the young can understand. The problem in the last election is the young see Otrauma as a member of the CULT of PERSONALITY - he is a rock star and the young like their rock stars.

There is a huge difference between an entertainer and a president of the USA. The entertainer can be ignored at his next show, the president leads for 4 to 8 years and can absolutely ruin or greatly improve the life of the people. Kids need to wake up....naw, he is so cool. And he can tweet! Sweet!

A realization of betrayal is the most dangerous awakening a politician can face. This is worst when the politician was selected by voters, and thus logically, the voters should have no one but themselves to blame. But this is not how it works. Pols like Barry are elected by voters with a vision of government as an entity which can make their lives pleasant and prosperous, whether they earn it, or deserve it, or not. Sooner or later, the government runs out of other people's money and disaster occurs. Then the disillusioned voters take to the streets. We live in interesting times.

Good point. It is not only possible to vote yourself into political extnction, but as the founders knew, it has been the fate of virtually all democracies. Switzerland has avoided it by making the Chief executive a position rotated through the Canton governors every year. This means the head of state has a vested interest in maintaining state's rights and decision making power. It keeps government close to the people. Our founders tried to do this with an appointed Senate, but this firewall was torn down by amendment, the 14th, if memory serves.

It was the 17th amendment which took the senate away from the states. This followed closely behind the 16th amendment, which took away the primary limitation on federal taxation, and started us down the road to unlimited growth of government. Both these amendments should be repealed.

Maybe they had their bottle of vasoline and enjoyed it. It would seem that they have totally been dumbed down....I am glad that I am old, but I worry about my grandchildren who do not bow down to Obama and the Democratic communists.

How can any thing good happen re the debt of the country. the better part of a supposed budget is untouchable and mostly for the benefit of politicians and federal comrades. What's left is a few dollars to kill babies. Obamacare will have death panels as treatments will be curtailed. Social security will turn into soup kitchens and recipients homes will be confiscated to pay for it. Elderly housing will be barracks if they are lucky to live that long. Party of Satan at best and being embraced by fools.

The bunch of brain-dead mindless idiots that would do something like this and would vote for Obozo is a testiment to the complete dumbing=down of the American education system. Comes from teachers who are the true product of "Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach".
Ethan Wrote: Jan 03, 2013 12:47 PM
Not just the education system. Don’t forget about parents (especially fathers) and church elders, whose job is to educate the children, and who are often neglecting that duty.

I knew that some of the younger Citizens were dumbasssesssss just by seeing them at the Malls the few times I have been but now I do believe more than a majority of them are to stupid to get out of the rain like a chicken that will stand with its head up in rain and drown.

IF THE YOUNG HAD SOME KIND OF POLITICAL TEACHING ON THIER CELL PHONES THEN THEY MIGHT KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT POLITICS.
Ethan Wrote: Jan 03, 2013 12:37 PM
Not even a chicken is that stupid, but I’m afraid some of our young people might be. With absent fathers, little positive religeous influence and a corrupt school system, there is nobody to teach them wisdom and righteousness, and plenty of opportunity to learn foolishness and evil.
