There's a difference between being mean, and acknowledging uncomfortable truths. There's also a difference between playing as best as one can versus not, and being mean has nothing to do with it.

Payne is right about Obama's attack machine though, and it's not nice. Just like our government. After all, many liberals refuse to acknowledge the fact that government uses force (and you won't find many who think government is nice when it takes your hard earned money) and nice it isn't.

First, I want to compliment Charles--nice job. Second, SMyles, I have not heard Paul Ryan nor Mitt Romney say one "mean" thing about Obama on a 'personal' level. There is a distinction between talking about one's record and bringing out the facts about the record (which, by the way, isn't positive), but please tell me where and what Paul and Mitt have said about Obama that is personally negative. And as a standard, please use "Romney killed a woman with cancer because the company he was running was failing and her husband lost his job and insurance" (which is a lie).

They absolutely have to say nice things about him, even when they are criticizing him. To say what they really think would lead to total fits in the media. It would lead to never-ending charges of racism 24/7 until election day. It's like walking in a mine field for the GOP.

That is what the consultants believe. Has saying nice things reduced the charges of racism etc? The truth is always superior. The dem strategy is to shut us up. Ryan, by painting him old tired, passé, wasn't nice but it was true and it wasn't angry nor could it be called racist etc. It takes thoughtful speech writers who understand the issues at more than sound bite depth to craft biting satire and witty attacks. Cowardice doesn't produce good stratety or tactics. The Republican strategists are cowards because they don’t really understand most of the issues.

Shaky thinking, there. I've never met a bully who responded positively to kind treatment from his victims. Obama and his cronies will consider that a weakness, and will exploit it, along with their charges of racism? and evil intentions towards anyone not firmly in their camp.

Or is their desperation so great because their record is so bad that they have to resort to sending their surrogates to drag their foes through the mud and filth while they appear to be above it all?

The useful idiots at MSLSD and CNN continued to chatter their blather over the strains of the song.
