Rather than a mere Tip-of-the-Hat this month, we probably should be awarding a Medal of Honor to Catherine Anthony Adair. Since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision the debate over abortion has raged on in America. Well beyond 50 million abortions have been performed, and while there has been some decline in the annual totals over the last decade, about 1.2 million reported abortions still occur every year in the U.S.
There are many reasons for the slight decline in the number of abortions. The widespread usage of the sonogram that gives an expectant mother a face-to-face look at her baby as early as nine weeks into the pregnancy may be the greatest advance for the pro-life movement. But, considerable credit has to be given to courageous women like Catherine Anthony Adair, too. Adair once worked for Planned Parenthood. But, after seeing the truth behind the smokescreen, she now speaks out to expose the "abortion first" business model of the agency.
Planned Parenthood is the largest single provider by far, performing nearly 30 percent of all abortions in the U.S. and the agency's "market share" is increasing. From 2000-2009, Planned Parenthood's the total number of abortions performed by the agency increased 69 percent. Since Planned Parenthood receives more than $350 million in government funding each year, great pro-life advocates like Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) continue to object to taxpayer dollars going to an organization that performs abortions. Planned Parenthood has danced around the issue for decades claiming federal dollars are somehow segregated from the abortion services they perform.
