After the company touched a near-bottom two-star
rankearlier this year, enough top-performing CAPS members
are now feeling bullish about
TriQuint Semiconductor (Nasdaq: TQNT) to
upgrade it to a maximum
five
stars. A total of 192 members have given their opinion on
the chipmaker, with many offering analysis and commentary to
explain their recent optimism.
Many CAPS members expect rapid
growth in the smartphone marketto benefit TriQuint, along
with peers
RF Micro Devices (Nasdaq: RFMD) and
Skyworks Solutions (Nasdaq: SWKS). TriQuint
already supplies
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and
Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) with its
radio frequency semiconductors, a segment that's becoming a
greater source of revenue.
Thanks to
smartphone growth, TriQuint's second-quarter handset
revenue grew 56% sequentially, while total revenue moved 42%
higher, to $169 million. In addition to expected long-term
global handset growth, TriQuint also expects to continue to
win government contracts for military applications, a segment
that saw second-quarter revenue grow 25% over the previous
quarter. It currently has key design wins for projects such
as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
But TriQuint doesn't stop there -- it also aims to build a
presence in the growing cable TV and fiber-optics market,
where it recently announced the acquisition of integrated
circuit maker TriAccess Technologies. Companies such as
Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and
AT&T (NYSE: T), as well as providers in
Europe and Asia, are rapidly
upgrading their networks. That increased bandwidth will
meet the needs of growing Internet, video, and voice services
-- another market TriQuint believes it can successfully
tap.
