Let’s put aside the fact that David Letterman’s jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughters were sexist, as NOW and other feminist groups have acknowledged. We should also ask why he thought it was a cutting insult to compare Palin to a flight attendant—and other normal Americans that upper-crust liberals would never associate with.

The obvious answer: they’re snobs.

It’s why they laughed along with another Letterman monologue likening Palin to members of the lowly working class. “She looks like the waitress at the coffee shop who draws a little smiley face on your check,” he said. “She looks like the dip sample lady at Safeway. She looks like the nurse who weighs you and then makes you sit alone in your underwear for 20 minutes.” This was funny to people who look down upon nurses and grocery store workers.

It’s why the status-obsessed Keith Olbermann brags about his “Ivy League” credentials when he actually went to a state school affiliated with Cornell—as if there were something shameful about a public education.

It’s why Michael Moore writes book after book haranguing Americans for being racist, lamenting in Stupid White Men, “[I’m] trying to clock how long it is before I spot a black man or woman who isn’t wearing a uniform or sitting at a receptionist’s desk.” But as of 2005, Moore was spending two-thirds of his time in Central Lake, Michigan—a town that doesn’t have a single black resident.

Obviously, penning sanctimonious screeds about American racism is the job of rich liberals. But actually living in racially diverse neighborhoods is for the working class. (This also explains why popular vacation destinations for the liberal elite, such as Aspen and The Hamptons, are almost entirely white. Conversely, you’ll never see Ted Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi hanging out at the Jersey Shore or other spots frequented by riffraff.)

It’s why a group of Hollywood aristocrats, including Barbra Streisand and David Geffen, illegally constructed fences to keep ordinary people off the public beaches near their Malibu homes. They’re all about the interests of the “little guy”—just as long as the peasants don’t obstruct their view of the ocean.

It’s why the Queen of Liberal Pomposity, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, suggested that George Bush was unfit for the Presidency because her friends made disparaging remarks about him at a Georgetown cocktail hour—as if any normal person cares about liberals’ insipid chitchat at their little parties. (The average home price in Georgetown: $1,435,180.)

It’s why they sneered at former Representative Tom Delay for building a successful pest extermination company (how blue-collar!). They instead admire people who inherited or sued their way to wealth, like John Kerry and John Edwards.

It’s why the liberal media elite fawn over Michelle Obama’s designer shoe collection, while joking that Sarah Palin looks like she belongs “at a TGI Friday’s happy hour.”

Hilarious, but only to liberal snobs who wouldn’t be caught dead hanging out at TGI Friday’s—or any other place they might encounter the “little guys” they claim to represent.

Bravo
Dead on. I am working class, and I am not a Democrat for precisely this reason.

The Entire Article Is 100% Spot On
but the title is redundant

The Snobs
and their brethren liberal politicians have no problem going after the votes of the people they won't personally associate with and love to look down on.
It's the democrats who belittle the value of the nurse, the grocery store worker, the flight attendant and the waitress. but always claim to protect and support them during a campaign to get elected. And who belittles the mentally challenged (perceived or real) more than liberal democrats and elitist snobs? But, who goes after their vote and claims they are there to fight for them at election time. I am so sorry these people can't see they are being used by the power seeking politicians.
We have our own trolls like Lilly on TH who has disparged the abilities of dyslexic Frank Ricci (of Ricci vs. DeStephano fame) and ridiculed the intellegence levels of military families. Oh, but folks, Lilly is so compassionate and caring and just wants everybody to be taken care of by our benevolent politicians.

Well said
Liberal kow-towing is all about power. Whichever group they feel that they can break promises to, in order to get elected, they will. God forbid David Letterman wait tables or serve anyone but himself. As on other topics discussed here, when it comes to the Left, the hypocrisy is palpable.

Truth!!
This would be funny if it wasn't the truth.

Snobs
Sorry to disagree but John Kerry did not inherited his money. He married it. His wife inherited it after marrying it.

Can we trust anyone again?
This whole incident just displays the cocky arrogance of the mainstream secular world. And they smugly want us to believe them?

"Let your yes be yes and your no be no" seem to be lost in modern politcs, journalism and society at large

Heres a blog post that talks about that:

http://redletterbelievers.blogspot.com/2009/06/will-we-ever -trust-again.html

It reminds me
of Atlas Shrugged.

“…They instead admire people who inherited or sued their way to wealth -”

I never read Atlas Shrugged, but became interested a couple months ago, and my husband happened to have a copy in a box in the attic.

It's a large book, and I am a slow reader, but one of the main characters in the beginning of the book is Hank Reardon. He owns and runs a metal manufacturing plant. He is always hugely successful in everything he does, yet he is constantly looked down upon by his wife, his mother and his brother because all he cares about is working. They care about the arts and philanthropy and "nobler" pursuits, and yet he supports them all.

None of them is capable of earning his own living and so they all mooch off of Hank. You would expect that they would be grateful and happy about Hank’s success, because they would starve to death without him, but they disdain him for his common work.

That pretty much sums up the liberal mindset.

Interesting,
Its been quite interesting to discover just what the elitists who believe it their destiny to rule us, both the left-liberal Democrats AND the beltway insider Republicans like Peggy Noonan and Kathleen Parker, think of us normal, middle-class people here in "flyover country".

They think they're so very sophisticated and that we rubes who get our hands dirty should fall at their feet to worship their magnificence. But in reality they're probably the most insular and provincial people in the country.

It would be pathetic and sad if it weren't so dangerous.

Guess what?
Even out here in the mountains there are liberals who believe that they are superior in every way to average, working class people. They are absurd in their pretensiousness, when in fact they are simply brainwashed products of the leftist educational system.

In that sense they are victims. It is impossible to feel sympathy for them because they are so obnoxious.

Find someone else to identify with, hmm?
All right. I choose to identify with The flight attendants, baristas, and grocery store employees liberals like Letterman love to look down their noses at.

Heck, I'd have a lot more respect for our current president if I'd heard he *ever* held the kind of job most normal, middle-class Americans have held. But no, I doubt he's ever been so much as a cashier. I don't think he's known an honest day's work in his life. Just look at the proliferation of photos of him that are everywhere around us- I've lost track of how many I've seen in which he is *literally* looking down his nose, just like the rest of his liberal buddies.

I'm not saying there aren't some arrogant conservatives. Arrogance is a common problem among the powerful and the famous. However, I am getting very tired of these people who have no idea of what it is like being an ordinary Joe deciding what is best for all of us. We need people like Joe the Plumber to run for office, not people like Al Gore who have been born and bred for politics.

The main reason we have so many power hungry nutjobs that have no compunctions about stripping the liberties of the average American citizen lies in this one term:

Career Politicians.

Donjindra
Define the term "neocon" in your own words. You show me a "neocon" and I will show you either a democrat or an extremist. You have no understanding of what a true conservative is. Show me one true conservative that you claim to be a "neocon" and adheres to true conservative principles.

Are you just mad because you are not part of a group that relies on the power of the individual? See the movement in Europe? Do you call the majority of voters there neocons?

Liberals I doubt it

Most of these decadent dregs of humanity are simply political cowards without the courage nor the independence of mind to develop their own personal political philosophies.

They are simply highly sensitive to what is politically correct, are under immense pressure from a small group of Hollywood intellectual elite, as well as tremendous professional and main stream media pressure to tow the politically correct line. Its why there is such little diversity of opinion amongst them. The pathetic wretches have sold their soul for the promise of a moment in the spotlight.

From the actors and entertainers who cultivate a pc image for themselves to present to the public, to their intended target, the youth, who are such pathetic slaves to peer pressure in everything from the clothes they wear to the way they express themselves, there is hardly an independent thinker among them.

Current entertainment industry political pressure is worse than the McCarthyism of the 50's the liberal establishment decried in the past.

To Malcontent
I am not a fan of Letterman but I take issue with your statement that he has "never done an honest day's work" because we hear that sort of statement on townhall all the time, that such-and-such has "never worked".

Do you think that nobody in show business, on TV, or in theater works? Actors, directors, camermen, builders of stage sets? By extension, would you say that nobody in the arts works---writers, violinists? All lazy slobs, parasites on society?

How about people who work with their minds and not their hands: economists? sociologists? historians? linguists? agronomists?

How about scientists whose work is theoretical rather than in clinical application: medical researchers in cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's? A dentist who fills teeth is OK but a dentist who does research into causes of tooth decay is not?

We see on townhall a narrow definition of "work". It includes: 1) People in the military. 2) People working in the building trades---construction, drywall, plumbing, electrical work, roofers, painters. 3) Truck-drivers. 4) People who run small businesses (a common complaint about Obama, during his campaign, was that he had never run a hardware store). 5) People in commerce. And not much of anybody else. The tree surgeon who knows how to remove a tree without it smashing down on your house: OK---a necessary service. The tree researcher who figures out how to stop an infestation of the Long-Horned Asian Beetle: his salary a silly waste of taxpayer money---pure pork.

We've often seen the accusation that Obama "has never worked". He's worked in corporate law, community organization, and for 12 years teaching Constitutional Law at a major university law school; has served several terms as a State Senator; has written two best-selling books that have made him a rich man.

All work is not work? What is this reverse snobbery about?

I'm a snob!
I'm a liberal so I must be! Not only that, I'm a European and you know how we Europeans look down on all Americans!

lilly
I find it off putting to read how you take the measure of a person. You see the outside and have your answer.
Shallower than a drop of water on the back of a spoon.

Lilly!
Very well said! I'd almost think you are a writer of some sorts, but sorry, I should not assume that because then you're an elitist.

but Rudolf
are you pretensious? The telling trait.
Bob, calling them cowards is spot on. Not even enough gut to simply say to their crowd that they respectfully disagree.
And I respectfully disagree that Parker and Noonan are either pretensious, liberal or snobs. They're groping rather publicly and clumsily for the next step in the future of the Republican party. They might be more party animals than conservative but they're still in our camp. I cut them some slack for now as the Republican party is also groping for its way.

Oh, my! Rudolf, say it ain't so!
Do you actually read Lilly's posts and believe she is "a writer of some sorts"?

Is discernment taught in Holland?

Nothing New Under the Sun
Back in the 1950's and early 1960's, there was a lot of resistance, not just in the South but primarily in the South, to the racial integration that was being mandated by federal law (probably this resistance was the beginning of the anti-government Conservative movement as we now know it). Politicians, therefore, sometimes campaigned on a segregationist platform. Because they were appealing to an uneducated electorate, part of their pitch was anti-intellectualism---today the pejorative term is "elites"---then it was "eggheads".

I remember one guy (Wallace? Maddox?) campaigning on TV saying of college graduates aka eggheads, "Why, them thar eggheads, they don't know how to change them no tahr. They git them a flat tahr, they don't know nothin' to do but stand thar on the sahd of the road and crah until somebody comes to help them. Them thar eggheads don't know how to change them no tahr." The crowd he was speaking to loved this, laughed and roared and clapped. A lot like Sarah Palin's crowds did when she mocked Obama's learning.

Same appeal. Same folks. Fifty-sixty years later. An American peculiarity: free schools, free libraries, free information on TV and the Internet, and yet education is disrespected and mocked while ignorance is seen as a social virtue. Interesting, isn't it?

A joy to read...
Ashley:

This is the first time I've read your column and yours is a unique, hard-hitting voice that combines a thoughtful irreverence for liberalism with a witty turn of phrase.

I look forward to reading more.

My writing is more sedate in comparison, but you might enjoy it...at:

Best,

Phil Mella

Sarah Palin.
I for one do like her in some ways. I do not question her intellect and she may be a good governor. However, last fall she did not do well on tv, except perhaps in the VP-debate. She needs serious schooling on national and int'l issues. Most importantly, she is too much to the right, too Christian-conservative for most voters. I don't think that's going to change.

I've had issues with Lilly before but
that comment identifying Sarah Palin with a prostitute was the capper. Whatever respect I had for her--her persistence, her sense of mission, etc.--that is GONE.

Lilly, Post #14
You sound like the petty, jealous girls in high school who despise the pretty cheerleaders.

Reading many of your posts on various subjects it's pretty conclusive that you're misinformed, ignorant, and bitter.

Lib women like you don't like conservative hotties such as Palin, Coulter, and Herzog because the feminist movement has been proven a disaster for you and now you're just a bitter, lonely, dried up old hag.

Good luck in life, though.

Liberal arrogance abounds
I know I've yet to come across a full fledged liberal that is anything other than indignant at the prospect that someone could possibly disagrees with them. Gadz!

I think the comment by Jerry and Donjindra is proof positive as to the arrogance of the left wing. Can a liberal simply disagree with conservative at an intelligent level? Not a chance. Jerry's intellectual argument is "they're not all boring, vapid blondes like you. Cut the crap with the 'white victim." Wow. Pretty clever, Jer.

Donjindra is much more subtle; "Why not write about all the pretentious conservative snobs? Start with the kings of elitism, the neocons, who make the art of looking down on the masses into a kind of mystical religion."

Donjindra simply puts the entire conservative movement into a nice neat and generic stereotypical package. Tell me Don, do you get your marching orders from Huffpo or Kos?

BTW, what's a neocon? Is that anything like a neoprog (progressive) or a neosoc. (socialist) Or should we just simply call a spade a spade and refer to the left as Marxists?

The Idiocy of 'Elitism'

Elitism is a state of mind NOT privilege and wealth. Many wealthy people are not elitists and many elitists are not wealthy.

Liberal Elitists expect us to recognize their “superiority” and give them the special treatment they so richly deserve – not because of skill or what they have accomplished – but because of whom they think they are.

Everyone has known an elitist, they name drop and have pictures of themselves with some celebrity. They often live well above their means and own pretentious homes and cars.

They pay to be listed in 'Who's Who' and have all sort of certificates hanging on their walls.

Most Elitists, do not posit their opinions, or refute other opinions by using facts, logic or reason, but rather 'Crow' about their credentials or use anecdotal examples of other Elitists.

Truth is NOT impressed with credentials or lack thereof.

Elitists ALWAYS lift themselves up by pushing others down, like Ashley Herzog has illustrated in her article.

Many Elitists claim their 'Superiority' by being born in a "More Sophisticated" than America.

Many Elitists claim their 'Superiority' by being born in a "More Sophisticated" family or have descended from some famous person, as if that had anything to do with them as an individual.

The Elitists 'real' problems with those like Sarah Palin are threefold - religion, her role as wife and mother and her 'commonness' in intellect.

We 'common folk' are truly sorry we embarrass the Elitists, maybe they can keep enlightening us.

Sarah Palin embodies the things elitists detest most and what most Americans represent.

Great Column Ashley Herzog

You are becoming one of my favorites here at Town Hall.

lilly
You are amazing. I wonder if you are aware that that southern accent you seem to associate with low intelligence is not in fact caused by low intellect. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself a little bit about dialect and accent and maybe you will understand why southerns sound the way they do, sorta they way most people born and raised in New England tend to sound like they have wet mush in their mouths.

Inevitably, some conservatives are snobs
But they don't keep on with all the patronizing chatter about being "for" the lower classes except to point out that government handouts are like addictive drugs, that those who can work should work, and when you tax the productive people too heavily you decrease employment opportunities.

It's the hypocrisy of the liberals that annoys those of us with eyes to see and ears to hear. They say one thing and do another.

I put this in a double dactyl a few years ago when Ted Kennedy was riding his high horse extra hard. It went like this:

Jiggery pokery
Senator Kennedy
Still seems to harp on the
Same boring notes
Tirelessly posed as an
Infracaninophile*
Merely to gain some in-
Competent votes.

*made-up word: "lover of the underdog"

Compassionate Liberals

If you believe Liberals, all they want to do is improve public education, provide for the poor, protect labor rights, civil rights, gay rights,
level the playing field, etc. etc. etc.

Who can object to that?

Why is that only 21% of Americans identify themselves as Liberals?

Why is it that Liberals are disliked by so many?

Perhaps its because only Liberals believe in using the "full force and power" of the Federal Government to hurt one group of Americans in order to help another group of Americans.

Lilly
I was not referring to Letterman with the comment about an honest day's work- I was referring to Obama, who likes to pretend that he's a man of the people all the while literally looking down his nose and sneering at us. It sounds to me that his whole life has been about grooming him for politics, not actually pursuing a real life. For those that make politics the ultimate aim of their lives are not actually living them. They are obsessed with personal image and control- hardly a life in my eyes, since it leaves them utterly without meaning once power finally slips from their grasp.

All I know about Letterman is the he is bitter, crude, and not in the least funny. I will readily admit to not knowing squat about his employment history.

This is so true
years ago my daughter had a show dog, and we went to a specialty in Ohio. We ended up sitting
at a round table with a variety of folks..there was one woman who constantly bragged about
The Hamptons. She asked around the table where people were from and what they did. The girl next to her said she was a waitress..my dau. pipes up..'so am I'..the look on this womans face was priceless being flanked by two working class women. I think if she'd been on a plane she'd have asked the stewardess for a barf bag.

These elitist snobs ..pan Sarah Palin for her
style and clothes and call Michellemabelle a
fashion plate. I saw that garish outfit she wore in Westminster Cathedral..ewwww! We had
a costume show at that same dog show..and that outfit would have put our Briard to shame..she'd have cowered in the corner..in other words our Briard had more class than to be caught dead in that outfit or in some of Michelles other outfits.

Jerry
Are you really that dull?

Ashley wrote this column defending Sarah because that moron Letterman keeps trashing her, and stepped way, way over the line, even for a pretentious liberal.

As to the 'barefoot in the kitchen' comment.....get a clue. Sarah is a successful woman in every sense of the word. A successful mayor, then governor, a successful mother, wife, etc.... Phyllis Schlafly is also a very successful woman in every way.

These are things that liberal women can only dream of doing, which is why they hate both of these classy ladies.

Liberals are huge snobs - Ashley nailed it perfectly.

Mary from CA

Mary wrote: "So what exactly is your point, Ms. Herzog?

What a dopey column. I feel like I'm in high school all over again."

Didn't teach you reading comprehension in HS?

No wonder you folks in CA are in such a mess.

It's Wisdom and Common Sense Lilly
Lilly I think you confuse education with wisdom. I will admit I have met uneducated people with little or no wisdom and the combination is not good to behold.

I have also known uneducated people with much wisdom and common sense who I respect a lot. And of course there are educated people without wisdom or common sense. These are the ones who tend to be the snobs in my experience.

I live in Mississippi and so you know our reputation. I once had a couple in their 50's walk into my place of business and said they were from Michigan. Then when they thought I couldn't overhear they joked that they thought they would need a passport to visit here. Like we were a third world country instead of part of the United States.

Mutual respect is the key. It is not hard to find the good in most people if you try. But snobbery is a fact of life. You and the other posters here who defend the snobs do everyone a disservice.

Liberals
Are usually pretty nice people and not snobs. One has only to go to DailyKos or Huffingtonpost to see what they are like. Herzog apparently just doesn't like smart people.

OMG
Letterman joked about the Palin's. Who cares. Get over it. If she wasn't so dumb, he probably wouldn't have made the joke.

taft
you are right.
Dailykos and the huffington post use common sense.
townhall does not.

Malcontent@8:37 PM:
Thank goodness you followed this blog; I thought I was going to have to wipe the floor with lilly's inherent inability to actually READ! Your response was well written--and kinder than mine (I'm feeling a mite puckish tonight).

I usually "skim" the somewhat longer comments, however, I instantly knew you were talking about Obama's lack of work experience--because you said you were talking about "our current president" (see comment #13, 6:12 PM EST). How lilly could miss that and assume you were speaking of Letterman is, well, mind-boggling! Until I remember she is a loony Leftie, that is.

i

lilly, you are priceless
lilly the Lib reads a column that accuses libs of being snobs and launches into an attack on Sarah Palin:

"If Palin wants to be treated like a professional woman it would help if she dressed and behaved like one. Tossing around her Big Hair, wearing go-go boots, winking at people, and blowing kisses to the crowd show the appearance and behavior of a prostitute trolling for customers. But then, given her background, how would she know the difference?"

lilly my dear, with that idiotic post you proved Ms. Herzog's point. Or are you such a moron that you don't see the stupid snobbery in your comment?

Taft @ 9:27
Is your post satire?

Living in MN, where conservatives are limited in number, it has been my experience that the ONLY people I met who were snobs were also liberals.

CLEARLY, not all liberals were snobs, in fact, most were not. Working for 10 years in the Diversity industry introduced me to more than my share of liberals and the only people who came across like they thought they were better than me were the liberals.

It just so happens that the nicest people were the ones who were wealthy, or self-made men/women both conservative and liberal.

Now Lilly educates us about hard work
Lilith,

How would you know what hard work is? Can you give some examples of your experience with hard work in your life.

Just from the arrogance you spew on your posts, I'd bet you are spoiled little generation-Xer who grew up in a relatively affluent family and would fold like a bad hand if you ever worked day in and day out in a job that required real hard work and paid very little.

I'm guessing you never spent a day on the streets let alone overnight, never had calluses on your soft lily-white hands, and wouldn't know what the reality of living on the bus-route is like for many of the people you look down on.

If you so called "educated" liberals really knew what was going on you wouldn't be so easy for the left wing politicians and political groups to hustle.

Just the notion of wealthy elitist liberals going to formal black-tie charity dinners for the homeless, jerks who never sat down and talked with any of these people one-on-one in their lifes, makes me sick. I can tell you what the homeless need more than anything else, but does a self-righteous liberal such as yourself have any clue?

Lilly says about Sarah Palin
"If Palin wants to be treated like a professional woman it would help if she dressed and behaved like one. Tossing around her Big Hair, wearing go-go boots, winking at people, and blowing kisses to the crowd show the appearance and behavior of a prostitute trolling for customers. But then, given her background, how would she know the difference?"

Note particularly the last sentence. And you libs claim not to be elitist? Lilly is a case in point!

I found a good one
Check this out!

"This is an impressive crowd — the haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elite. I call you my base." —Presidential candidate Barak Obama, at the annual Al Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, Oct. 19, 2008

Sweet!

Bob@9:45PM
Wow! Converting "lilly" to "Lilith"; I didn't make the connection, but now that you mention it, I see it exactly. For those to whom "Lilith" means nothing but an unusual but pretty name, I offer the following standard links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith
http://dictionary.reference.com/dic?q=Lilith&search=search

Lilith is a Mesopotamian female demon associated with storms or winds, and often "seen" as attacking women and children. In Jewish lore, Lilith is also the name of Adam's first "wife", before Eve was created from his rib.

Bob, that was an apt association; lilly does seem rather demonic in many of her posts here at TH.

i

To Bob
Well, over four years of posting to townhall as a liberal Democrat I have been described by other posters as a wearer of Birkenstock shoes, hairy, a lesbian, a frequent patron of abortion clinics, and a dweller in the forests of Massachusetts, but this is my first time at charity balls. I guess I'm moving up in the world. You folks have funny ideas about Democrats and liberals. Of course, you never stereotype......any more than you make racist remarks or threaten to shoot people you don't like.

Accusations on this thread about liberals not knowing what's what so often seem to come back to finding Obama unqualified for the Presidency. Maybe that's what all this discussion is really about. I don't see that sleeping in the streets overnight is necessarily a qualification for holding high public office. I should think that it would be more useful to know about economics, the law, history, international and domestic social policy, and diplomacy than being really up on which restaurant puts the best leftover food in its dumpster.

Somebody mentioned that Obama has never worked as a cashier. Actually he has; he worked at a Baskin-Robbins in high school, and at every one I've been to, the same clerk dips up the ice cream and puts the money in the cash register. Does that B-R experience somehow make him more of an expert in economics than the formal economics study he undertook as part of his degree in Political Science and International Affairs?

MNDuck
"
It just so happens that the nicest people were the ones who were wealthy, or self-made men/women both conservative and liberal."

That's very true. I was in Washington D.C. once, for a wedding, and I came across some pretty snobbish, Yale/Harvard types. I think the snobbishness isn't a liberal thing, just ones individual antics.

Lilly
I said that I *doubt* he's held a job as a cashier. Please quit cherry-picking what you want out of my post. As it is, kudos to him for working at Baskin Robbins. Pity he didn't learn a little humility. Or if he did, it's a real shame he couldn't hang on to it. I guess it's true what they say though, isn't it? Power corrupts.

It wasn't about making him an expert in economics, either. This whole article was about his and other liberals' (which you so aptly demonstrated) profound snobbery. Knowledge does not dictate character, and character is what I find lacking in Barack Obama. I have never called the man stupid.

I Love This Article
We did not have a viable choice in the election. Obama is a disaster. We love Sarah. And, that being said, I was a Mitt girl last time. Conservatism and not statism.

liberals are just amazing
I mean come on, liberals claim to despise racists, its wrong to hate and put someone down because of their skin color. Yet liberals have no problem demonizing and all that racism entails when it comes to people they deem mentally inferior. Didn't the Nazi's go after the mentally challenged even before they went after the gypsies and the jews??
Its wrong to hate despise the gays, whether it be because they choose that way of life, or may have been born with a predisposition towards that behavior. Yet they ridicule and humiliate and absolutely abhor overweight people, never mind that might have been their choice of lifestyle or may have been born with a glandular problem that predisposed those people to become overweight.
Of course liberals will deny any of this. after all they are compassionate people, so long as you fit into what they consider acceptable behavior.
If the conservative are all that the left claims, well, it simply makes the left the rights evil twin.

Taft
The funny thing is that some of the people that I have had talk down to me or patronize me were professors in college who could not understand how I could be an honors student and still be a conservative.

For a name to reference - Chuck Hunt, University of Oregon. Absolutely the worst, most condescending teacher I had.

lilly
Palin Dresses and Acts Like a Prostitute
If Palin wants to be treated like a professional woman it would help if she dressed and behaved like one. Tossing around her Big Hair, wearing go-go boots, winking at people, and blowing kisses to the crowd show the appearance and behavior of a prostitute trolling for customers. But then, given her background, how would she know the difference?
************************************************
This is disgusting! Of all the criticism I have read of Sarah Palin, this is the most telling of why the left hates her so much.

It's not what she says. It's not what she has accomplished in Alaska and elsewhere. It's not that she was a good VP candidate, that made McCain palatable enough for some of us to hold our noses and vote vor them. It's none of these.

IT IS HOW SHE LOOKS!!!!

This really makes this column spot on!

Lilly Don't feel bad.
You just got bad luck that's all. Heck, just the other day I was called a right winger by someone on this forum. I was frankly insulted. I believe in Jesus, but I don't beat the bible over people heads. So I suppose I am unobservant and all that. But that would get of the point I am going to try to make, much to the chagrin of many posters here. Much of what goes on it the threads here represent the absolute extremes of both sides butting heads. You often seem to me to represent the extreme left, so its no wonder you get called the names you do, yet I have seen your posts are you are just as hostile and confrontational as you claim those on the right. In fact, you have no one to blame but yourself for the things said of you here. You intentionally come to a conservative news site just to start a fight.

I Hate All Those Liberal Snobs
You're right guys. Those darn liberals and their elitist, million dollar snobbishness! Forget them, let's desperately defend the advantages billion-dollar corporations enjoy, like tax loopholes and circa 2004-legalized investment frauds!

I love being paid so little that I can't afford to get sick! But not as much as I love making sure that homosexual couples can't get married! Know why? Because every homosexual in America is a snob, and under the U.S. Constitution, Article 9 Section 11, it's written, "Snobs don't deserve rights."

I think that everyone who is affluent and white is liberal! I don't think ANY liberals live in diverse neighborhoods like New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, or any urban areas whatsoever! And so on...

What I find hilarious....
is that the liberal elite consider "middle America" to be "fly-over territory".
A literal waste of their valuable time as they jet back and forth from the east coast to the left coast.

Overall, the people of the Midwest are the most authentic, most charitable and the hardest working people in these United States. I am not saying this to make myself and my own state look good. I'm from Georgia.......far from the Midwest. But I have visited there many, many times.

To get back to my original point, why do some of these "Midwest states" vote for these elitist liberal snobs?
States that come to mind are, among others, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Are you people masochistic, enjoying these snobs looking down their noses at you, or is it just envy and that by supportting these elitists, you're hoping to be included "in with the in crowd"?
These "Hollywood phonies" will pretend to like you as long as you vote for them..........
then they laugh behind your backs at their cocktail parties.......

Desparation to be included/accepted is embarassing and sad......

hi toned
David Letterman apologized. Obama is offended by Fox News. How white of them both.

Nick, The reason you're paid so little is that you are an ignoramous. It's obvious from your writing that your intellect and lack of experience limits your earning ability.

Nick
I would personally find using any major metropolitan area as an example of diversity extremely foolish. Diversity is exactly what it is division, so maybe the big cities are good examples. You have people from many different cultures and nationalities and races all crammed into one big area. Yet all those people will tend to gravitate towards their own kind.
Government ended segregation only to ignore the fact that the different races and cultures really don't want anything to do with each other if they don't have to..
What I am getting at is that is all a joke. American's prove everyday that we are a society that can work together, share in the same kind of entertainment, rub shoulders together and get along. Yet when you get down to the facts, they don't really want to mix. A bunch of mush heads that for some reason feel they have to have friends that don't share their cultural backgrounds and I am not sure why. But outside of the workplace and maybe at the bar or an amusement park or ballgame. People want to congregate and be surrounded by people that share their common cultural traditions.
So that is why in the big cities the different cultures and races tend to have their little enclaves..Yea diversity!!!!!!!!!

Offended?
Obama offended? Since when is that supposed to be news? He can't stand any form of criticism, nor even simple questioning of the things he says. He is unbelievably thin-skinned.

I see this as different than Sarah Palin's objection to Letterman because she is responding to an obscene insult directed at her daughter (and the 'apology' she recieved sounded tepid at best). Our president, on the other hand, can't even cope with constructive criticism.

Incidentally, I think anyone that decides to step up to the plate as President of the United States had best resign themselves to being flat-out hated. Let's face it, you can't please everyone, and you shouldn't try. There's such a thing as standing on principles. And anyone that does that *knows* there are going to be some people out there that abhor whatever principles you stand for.

Or... you could just try kissing everyone's keisters and maybe they'll just laugh at you behind your back instead of hating your guts.

Laughter
“Nothing shows a man's character more than what he laughs at.” Goethe

Malcontent
Maybe Obama was appalled at the utter hypocrisy of this "fair and balanced" business. Then again, there has been a lot of hypocrisy going around the GOP ranks lately.

Malcontent
Brother you said it. You can't please them all, the Resident thinks he can Fool them all though.
But what you said about kiss butt and being laughed at makes me realize one thing.
It's exactly why even though I may be poor, simple white trash. At least a lot of snobs would see me so. I am proud of that. I don't care what anyone thinks of me.
a good time for us Poor White Trash. A pizza and friends and a bunch of good laughs, cutting hard burns equally returned and equally laughed at by all. or The Elitists world
over-salted, half-rotted spoon fulls of stinking fish eggs and overpriced sour grape juice with carbonation and politely complimenting someone on how elegant they look while holding my hand over my mouth and telling my closest friends how pathetic and undeserving that person was, fully knowing those same friends will say the same of me when I walk away..
damn I take the poor, any kind of skin color trash over that any day of the week.

Please, Oh Please
Nominate Sarah Palin, professional victim, as the Republican Presidential candidate for 2012

And watch how 60+ of the voters turn into Elitist Snobs.

One more question lilly
Has the Police ever tasered you?

Well, over four years of posting to townhall as a liberal Democrat I have been described by other posters as a wearer of Birkenstock shoes, hairy, a lesbian, a frequent patron of abortion clinics, and a dweller in the forests of Massachusetts,
======================

4 years of coming on a conservative board to insult people.

You gotta a lot of hate in you to do that.

How many times you been tasered lilly?

YOU ARE GREAT AND RIGHT AND ON IT!
This is not just the elite left wing SNOBS.

You describe all the left wing SNOBS who now shop at walmart with sunglasses and caps to disguise themselves.

I was raised in poverty and working class...I now am really doing well...but I still shop at WalMart and still have the same friends I have had since, yes, CHILDHOOD>>>and we get along great...why?

Because I never forgot where I came from...

Ted Kennedy did
Barbara Striesand did
LetterPig did
Moron Dowd did

aww man...not Goethe
Fleur..“Nothing shows a man's character more than what he laughs at.” Goethe

"Goethe also recommended compulsory sterilization of the 'socially unfit', opposed immigration, and praised German scientists who used a comprehensive sterilization program to 'purify' the Aryan race before the outbreak of World War II. Goethe also funded anti-Asian campaigns, praised the Nazis before and after World War II, and practiced discrimination in his business dealings, refusing to sell real estate to Mexicans and Asians.

Goethe believed a variety of social successes (wealth, leadership, intellectual discoveries) and social problems (poverty, illegitimacy, crime and mental illness) could be traced to inherited biological attributes associated with 'racial temperament'."

wow...I think I'll start with exact opposite conclusions of Goethe, and then work from there...gotta be safer that way

Goethe and kenley
From Kenley's (73) post: "Goethe also recommended compulsory sterilization of the 'socially unfit', opposed immigration, and praised German scientists who used a comprehensive sterilization program to 'purify' the Aryan race before the outbreak of World War II. Goethe also funded anti-Asian campaigns, praised the Nazis before and after World War II, and practiced discrimination in his business dealings, refusing to sell real estate to Mexicans and Asians.

Whoever wrote this is an absolute ignoramus. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was perhaps Germany's greatest writer and poet, and although he lived to the ripe old age of 82, he died in 1832, long before the Nazis or WWII (in fact, before WWI or even a united German nation). He had nothing to do with any of the nonsense listed above, and to assert that he did, you either have to believe that he rose from the dead or that he supported Hitler's policies over 100 years before Hitler ever came to power. Either way, you are an idiot.

education
I've noticed that a college education without any common sense just produces educated nuts.

A Renter Can Be A Snob?
You mean only elitist snobs hate Sarah Palin? I live with my father in a run-down apartment crawling with cockroaches, and I still think Sarah Palin is an evil witch. Is it so hard to believe that someone who's in the lower-middle class despises someone who they think is a pernicious, self-centered carreerist politician? It's perfectly possible.

Get her some new hinges.
Somebody needs a good night's sleep...

Did I just read that liberal millionaires are snobs because they vacation where millionaires vacation?

Did I just read Herzog proclaiming that it is snobbish to erect fences around one's own property?

Did I just read that I should keep a good lookout for Mitt Romney sunning himself amongst the "riffraff" in Ocean City, New Jersey? If I don't see him there, I guess that would mean he's a snob. Has he sold that palace out in Colorado yet? Wouldn't want to be caught dead with the liberal elite, would he?

Gets some sleep Herzog and try again. (Perhaps look into anger management.)

Ashley...get real sista!
I am eagerly waiting for your other list of conservatives who are also snobs.

I am sure rush limbaugh who travels via private jet and bragged he had never been to a wall mart, is qualified to argue that wall mart is a great american company.

I am sure Nancy Reagan hang out at inner city LA with the brothers and sista's she was asking to 'just say no!'.

I am sure the republicans were concerned about CEO bonuses because....of the legal contracts, never mind the little guys represented by unions who have to lose their jobs when GM goes bankrupt with government intervention. Stick with the bonuses and let the small guy suffer.

The list is so long and I hope you write another 'objective' column listing the hypocrites on the 'conservative side'.

don't forget Dobson's best buddy Ted haggard advocate and leader of defense of marriage being caught in bed with his gay lover......and wife saying 'i knew he struggled with his sexuality' and dobson urging chrisitans to be forgiving as he Dobson gives Ted therapy and Ted receives full pay during his 'time out'. Remember these family values guys - crucified clinton for being lewinskyed......

Sheik, post #79
Limbaugh has defended Wal-Mart time and again.

Would you hang out with the "brothers and sista's" (your words not mine) in inner city L.A.?

I'll leave it at that for the time being.

P.S. Lilly, sorry if I was too harsh.

Loved the article
Liberals make fun of the working class even though most of them are from working class families.

Get it right!
But she doesn't know that these people were Southern Democrats. Lily, lily study your history.

Lilly said:
"Nothing New Under the Sun
Back in the 1950's and early 1960's, there was a lot of resistance, not just in the South but primarily in the South, to the racial integration that was being mandated by federal law (probably this resistance was the beginning of the anti-government Conservative movement as we now know it). Politicians, therefore, sometimes campaigned on a segregationist platform. Because they were appealing to an uneducated electorate, part of their pitch was anti-intellectualism---today the pejorative term is "elites"---then it was "eggheads"."

Governors make better presidents!!!!!!
Most of the best Presidents were governors such as Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt. Carter was one of the few notable exceptions. Senators are feckless cowards who NEVER make decisions that can bite them but hide behind committees to scatter the blame.

It's like base closings. Rather than rouse the ire of their constituents they form a "blue ribbon" committee of former Senators and aids who work from a list THEY created so when the base closes and jobs evaporate they can point to the select committee and pretend to be bystanders.

Geez
When I spoke in post #66 mentioning kissing rears and laughing behind backs, that was a veiled reference to Obama's behavior in the Middle East. Seems some of you weren't picking up on that.

Remember his obsequious bow to the Saudi King?

Back Asswords

Lilith,

Just like a liberal to get their logic completely backwards.

For those occupying positions in the legislative and executive branches of government, a conservative might want someone with a broad range of real life experience to formulate and carry-out policy that is compassionate and fair minded. You know, government of the people, for the people and by the people. Think Sarah Palin. But liberals want to fill these branches of government with ivy-league, elitist, intellectual, humanists, who haven't the foggiest notion of the struggles of the average citizens of this country. Think President Obama.

For the
